Lets delve in shall we...

DEFINITION

Gold Vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a premium type of gold-plated jewellery made by layering a thick coat of solid gold over a base of sterling silver. It's higher in quality than standard gold-plated pieces and is known for its durability, rich colour and luxurious feel.

BASE METAL

Gold Vermeil is crafted using a base of sterling silver (925 silver), an alloy composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals to enhance strength and durability. Unlike base metals such as copper, brass or stainless steel commonly found in standard gold-plated jewellery, sterling silver offers a hypoallergenic, high-quality foundation that's ideal for long-term wear with a premium finish.

PLATING LAYER

Every piece in our gold vermeil collection, is finished with a thick layer of 18k gold, bonded over a base of sterling silver. Unlike standard gold-plated jewellery, our vermeil meets industry standards with a minimum thickness of 2.5 macrons.

  • STANDARD GOLD PLATING

Standard Gold Plating involves applying a very thin layer of gold - less than 0.5 microns over a base metal such as brass or copper. While it offers the appearance of gold, this type of plating wears off quickly with regular use and may cause skin irritation for those with metal sensitivities .

  • GOLD FILLED

Gold-Filled jewellery consists of a thick layer of solid gold (usually 5% of the item's total weight) mechanically bonded to a base metal, often brass. It is highly durable and more resistant to tarnishing than standard plating, but it's not considered a fine metal, and the base metal is not precious.

  • SOLID GOLD

Solid Gołd jewellery is entirely made of gold, measuring in karats (typically 14k, 18k, or 24k). It's the most durable and luxurious option, resistant to tarnish and perfect for heirloom quality pieces. Because it's made of precious metal through and through, it comes with a significantly higher price point.
